“Tools do not make the blacksmith, the blacksmith makes the tools”. This is a saying which sums up the philosophy behind blacksmithing. Without the blacksmith the stone mason and the carpenter would not have their chisels, the woodsman would not have their axe and the hedge layer would not have their billhook.
I entered into the world of blacksmithing through Bushcraft. Having used a knife for many years I wanted to learn how to make my own. I quickly realised that forged blades were superior which led me towards blacksmithing.
I am training as a general blacksmith but continue to specialise in knife making, drawing inspiration from different cultures and using traditional forging techniques to make tools that can be passed on from generation to generation.
